Step 1:

Let's start out by creating a new file. I used a 700x520 pixels canvas set at 72dpi, and I filled my background with a black color. Now duplicate your background layer which should be a normal black canvas layer. Then go to Filter > Noise > Add Noise, apply the settings below.

Step 2:

Duplicate the black canvas layer with noise filter and go to Filter > Blur > Radial Blur, apply the settings below. Then set the layer's opacity level to 65%.

Step 3:

Select the brush tool with a 35 px soft brush and create a new layer titled 'Colors'. Now in a new layer paint 5 simple brush strokes with different color shades on the center of your canvas, you can use the color codes below or use your own.

Step 4:

Grab the Smudge Tool and above your screen under the options palette set the strenght to 80% and uncheck 'Use all layers' and 'Finger painting' setting. Then use the smudge tool to combine the colors.

Step 5:

Duplicate 'Color' layer and set the original aside by turning off the layer. WIth the duplicate apply a blur filter through Filter > Blur > Guassian Blur.

Step 6:

Now copy the blurred color layer from step five.

Step 7:

At the other end of your header design add glassy buttons for your RSS Feed and Email Alert Link.

Step 8:

Select your Horizontal Type Tool and above your screen under the options palette set the font family to Bauhaus 93, 100pt, strong. In a new text layer type the name of your Space Scene, modify the color of each letter to a different color shade. Then under Layer Style(Layer > Layer Style) add an Outer Glow, Inner Glow, and Satin blending options.

Step 9:

Remember the original 'Color' layer you set aside earlier? Turn on that layer and move it on top of all the curent layers under the layers palette.

Step 10:

Now add more coloreful smudge designs on the rest of your letters.

Results:

Space Scene.
